4a - Introductory Workshop Benesh Movement Notation

These workshops are conducted from time to time as part of RAD Summer Schools. They can also be offered to schools and colleges as one-off lectures or workshops.

Who will benefit from these workshops?
Anyone from below 7 to above 70 who might be curious about writing movement on paper.

Aims
To introduce the idea of movement notation and to show how easy it can be to read simple movement phrases recorded in Benesh Movement Notation.

Content

  • A very basic introduction to Benesh Movement Notation
  • Practical experience of using a notation score to read simple sequences

Duration
40 mins – 2 hours as agreed

Requirements should you wish to offer an Introductory workshop to students at your school or college:

  • Venue:
    Studio, hall or classroom large enough for participants to move around in freely. Power points for overhead projector and audiotape player. Note: if the workshop is to be conducted during daylight hours it must be possible lower the light source sufficiently to enable the use of an overhead projector.

  • Equipment:
    White board or black board with appropriate dry marker pens or chalks (minimum dimensions approx 4 ft x 3 ft)
