Starter Courses (Clinical)
For those interested in using the notation in a clinical context, we offer two distance learning courses: a short taster course, ‘Start Now’ (1d), and its sequel, ‘Moving On’ (1e).

1e - Benesh Movement Notation for Clinicians, Moving On

This course builds on the basics concepts and practice achieved in Start Now and develops the topics of recording movement in considerably more detail at the level studied. It concludes with an extended section on the recording of simple gait patterns.

Aims
To provide the tools for the student to make recordings of a wide variety of movement patterns, including quality and simple timing.
To develop the use of notation records for interpretation purposes and the evaluation of change.

Content

  • development of recording precisely without undue repetition
  • quality of movement
  • paths of movement of upper & lower limbs
  • specifying changes of direction
  • self-assessment questions and answers
  • practice in the description and comparison of recordings at the level studied

Delivery
By Distance Learning with individual tutorial support provided by phone, fax, email and post.

Duration
1 year part-time (100 hours) Starting in October and February

Entry requirements
A ready ability to read non-colloquial English text.Familiarity with both clinical and biomechanical terminology.

Award
On completion of the course students may apply to sit a written examination. Success in the examination leads to the award of the Elementary Certificate in Benesh Movement Notation - Writing (Clinical).
